How dangerous are microplastics for human health?

Microplastics are everywhere around us: in the food we eat, the water we drink, the cosmetics we use, and even in the air we breathe. The exact consequences these tiny particles of plastics have on human health are yet to be fully discovered, mostly due to the fact that no direct studies have been conducted on human exposure.

However, laboratory toxicology experiments have shown that high doses of microplastics adversely impacted liver function, altered metabolism and other important biological reactions in the mammals tested.

On top of that, microplastics can serve as a vehicle for other dangerous chemicals, that enter through our food chain too and cause food poisoning. Hence the growing concerns about our health for the population.
