A small male pilot whale died in Thailand after eating 8kg (18lb) worth of plastic bags. The mammal was found in a canal near the border with Malaysia, and while a team of rescuers desperately tried to save its life and managed to make it vomit 5 of the plastic bags it had ingested, the whale died shortly after.

Plastic bags swallowed by marine animals get stuck in their stomachs, making it impossible for them to eat any nutritional food. In Thailand, at least 300 marine animals including dolphins, whales and sea turtles die each year from ingesting plastic bags.
